A Cornerstone of LA River Restoration

Taylor Yard Riverside Park stands as a pivotal project in the ongoing efforts to revitalize the Los Angeles River. Situated on a 42-acre parcel known as the G2 site, this development aims to transform a former industrial railyard into a vibrant public space that fosters ecological restoration, community engagement, and urban connectivity.
 

Historical Context


Historically, Taylor Yard served as a major railroad switching facility from 1911 to 1985. Prior to its industrial use, the area was home to indigenous Tongva/Gabrieleno communities who thrived along the riverbanks. In March 2017, the City of Los Angeles acquired the G2 parcel for $60 million, marking a significant step toward reclaiming the riverfront for public use and environmental rejuvenation.

Project Vision and Components


The transformation of Taylor Yard Riverside Park is guided by the Los Angeles River Revitalization Master Plan, which envisions the area as a hub for:
  • Habitat Restoration: Reintroducing native plant species to support local and migratory wildlife.
  • Public Recreation: Developing walking trails, open green spaces, and recreational facilities for community use.
  • River Access: Providing over a mile of direct access to the LA River, enhancing opportunities for kayaking, fishing, and riverside activities.

Paseo del Río: An initial phase focusing on a native habitat greenway, with secured funding aimed at creating a lush, walkable environment along the riverbank. Currently in the design phase, construction is due to begin in 2025.

Taylor Yard Bikeway and Pedestrian Bridge: Opened in March 2022, this 400-foot-long bridge connects the park to the Elysian Valley, promoting seamless pedestrian and cyclist movement across the river.
